Joe Downing, Till then, 1958-1960
The museum of Unterlinden in Colmar presents from May 8th to October 31st 2010 a retrospective dedicated to American artist Joe Downing (1925-2007). 1, rue d'Unterlinden 68000 Colmar.

Born in Kentucky, Joe Downing belongs to this generation of American artists who settled in France after WWII. Encouraged by Picasso since his first exhibition at gallery Huit à Paris in 1952, Joe Downing exhibits as well, following the example of Jackson Pollock at Paul Facchietti’s (1953) and participates with other artists like Coppel, Hartung, Mathieu and Manessier to the great gallery Arnaud adventure…

The exhibition
The exhibition at Colmar reveals the unknown aspects of one of the greatest American abstract painting character of the half of the 20th century, through a selection of works coming from the Unterlinden museum and lendings.
