Summary
Upper School (15-18): The English International Section, together with the Franco-German Section, form part of a regular French state school, which opened in 1997. It has weekday boarding facilities. The English Section caters for bilingual children and for non-French speakers newly arrived in France. Special tuition in French is available. The school offers new arrivals from the English-speaking world the opportunity to study in a regular French lycée whilst maintaining a high level in their native language. Conversely, it offers French students the opportunity to achieve a high degree of bilingualism and biculturalism in English. Most of the teaching is in French, but English language, English literature, history and geography are taught in English by English mother tongue teachers. Students prepare a variety of examinations, depending on their personal career projects: the traditional French Baccalaureate, the International Option of the French Baccalaureate, GCE examinations, Cambridge certificates in Advanced and Proficiency in English, SAT and TOEFL. Our college counseling service prepares students for entry to UK and US universities, as well as the French Classes Préparatoires. Extra-curricular activities include the Yearbook, the English Theatre Club and HMCE. The school is in the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence and about 25 kilometers from the city of Marseille. Lower School (11-15) : The English Section is also part of a well-established lower school in the center of Aix-en-Provence and the teaching is organized along the same lines as at the Upper School.
