Middlebury College School in France
Middlebury College (Middlebury, Vermont) is one of the country's top liberal arts colleges. It offers its students a broad curriculum embracing the arts, humanities, literature, foreign languages, social sciences, and natural sciences.

Middlebury is an institution with a long-standing international focus, a place where education reflects a sense of looking outward, and a realization that the traditional insularity of the United States is something of the past.
With regards to France and the study of the French language and culture, Middlebury programs exist both on campus and overseas.
The College is transformed every summer into an institution single-mindedly devoted to the study of 10 foreign languages and cultures and the use of English is virtually banned for the participants.  For example, teachers from France, Africa, the French Caribbean, and Canada, share their expertise, skill, and insights with participants in the French Language School so that they may acquire a better understanding of contemporary and historic French culture.

Middlebury has also established C.V. Starr-Middlebury Schools Abroad on 32 sites in 12 countries within Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia. These schools enroll each year more than 300 undergraduate and graduate students who seek to further their foreign language skills and immerse themselves as fully as possible in the host culture through academic study as well as direct experience.  The Middlebury College School in France is the oldest School Abroad, founded in 1949 in Paris as a graduate program where Middlebury College French School students could continue and finish their MA degree. In the 1960s, as Middlebury College undergraduate students began to show increasing interest in going abroad, the program was expanded to fulfill their needs.

The Middlebury College School in France offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide variety of disciplines such as archaeology, art history, biology, chemistry, comparative literature, economics, film, French literature, geography, history, international relations, linguistics, mathematics, musicology and music, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, and theater.  All coursework is conducted entirely in French; the School in France is based on the ethos of full cultural and linguistic immersion.

The School in France has three sites to choose from, depending on the course of study and the kind of environment the student is seeking:  Paris, and for those students who choose to experience life in the French regions, Bordeaux and Poitiers.
Middlebury College's partners in Paris include Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne, Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris Diderot – Paris 7, Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Sciences-Po), Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture, and Institut Catholique de Paris.  Special arrangements can be made to study at other Parisian institutions (Ecole Normale Supérieure, Ecole Normale de Musique and EHESS, for instance).
In Bordeaux, students take classes at the Université de Bordeaux 3 Michel de Montaigne, Sciences Po Bordeaux, and at other branches of the Université de Bordeaux, if necessary for course requirements.
In Poitiers, students enroll at the Université de Poitiers (language and literature, social sciences and arts, fundamental and applied sciences, economics, etc.)
In addition, Middlebury College School in France is exploring the possibility of developing programs on two additional sites in the near future.

The offices for the Middlebury College School in France are located at the Centre Madeleine, 5 rue de Surène, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, near the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées.  For further information on Middlebury College School in France, please contact the Centre Madeleine by telephone at (33) (0)1 43 20 70 57 or by e-mail to .
