From Saturday, October 2nd to Tuesday, October 19th, 2010- Show Boat
Author : Théâtre du Châtelet

Photo: Malin Anersson

In 1927, for the first time in its history, Broadway produced a family saga full of emotion and drama relating the faith of characters during more than 40 years. Show Boat is performed at le Châtelet as October 2nd. 1 place du Châtelet 75001 Paris

The innovative dimension of Show Boat and its huge success in 1927 make this musical one of the most famous in the world.

Inspired by a novel from Edna Ferber, Show Boat bravely evokes topics considered as taboo at the time: marital rifts, racial issues towards the black community. In the segregated America of the 1920s, it was a heavy bet, never seen before in Broadway!

This musical is also a way to pay tribute to Maurice Lehmann, Châtelet’s director from 1928 to 1966, who offered to the Paris audience the French production of Show Boat since 1929, under the name of Mississippi.
