The library houses a collection of American art unique in Europe. Housing a collection of American art unique in Europe, the Terra Foundation library opened its doors to the public in the fall of 2009. The library’s holdings, although not comprehensive, comprise about 6,500 items and by spring of 2011 will boast another 2,000 volumes thanks to the bequest of the Roger B. Stein collection, professor of art history at the University of Virginia.

The library specializes in the art of the United States from the 18th century to the 1980s with a strong focus on works covering the 19th and early 20th centuries. The catalogue is available on line at: http://catalogue.terra.biblibre.com/.

In addition, JSTOR and ProQuest (American Periodicals Series) are accessible in the reading room.

Students, teachers, researchers and museum professionals can consult works from the library’s collection in the reading room on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only.
